O presente artigo tem como objetivo apresentar argumentos para o entendimento dos conceitos que regem a relação entre corpo e poder, especialmente do corpo como ferramenta para afirmação ideológica de poder no Brasil do período Vargas. Traçar-se-á um breve relato do uso e das representações do corpo na história, a fim de subsidiar as ideias apresentadas. A partir de documentos oficiais, escritos de autoridades e matérias da imprensa, comparados a uma sociologia do corpo já existente, buscar entender como o rápido desenvolvimento dos meios de comunicação, aliados a um projeto de governo autoritário, lidou com essa questão. Quais foram as rupturas, permanências ou inovações acerca dessas representações. Quais significações e ressignificações tornaram-se elementos da narrativa acerca do corpo naquele momento histórico. Concluímos que, a relação entre corpo e poder no Brasil seguiu um processo de evolução, não no sentido qualitativo, mas de adaptação aos momentos históricos.
The aim of this article is to present arguments for understanding the concepts that govern the relationship between the body and power, especially the body as a tool for the ideological assertion of power in Vargas-era Brazil. A brief account of the use and representations of the body in history will be drawn up to subsidize the ideas presented. Based on official documents, the writings of authorities and press reports, compared to an existing sociology of the body, the aim is to understand how the rapid development of the media, combined with an authoritarian government project, dealt with this issue. What were the ruptures, continuities or innovations in these representations? What meanings and re-significations became elements of the narrative about the body at that historical moment? We concluded that the relationship between the body and power in Brazil followed a process of evolution, not in the qualitative sense, but in terms of adapting to historical moments.
